Materials: toilet paper rolls

A great game, and Genki English’s song would work great too! The children get into groups of 3: (1 doctor and 2 patients). Each group gets a roll of toilet paper. You say, “Doctor! Doctor! My … hurts!”. The doctors must wrap their patient’s body part. Go to this activity »

Also try a version from Genki English called The Funky Mummy Game!

Materials: none

The teachers says “Simon says, touch your …”. Add a “please” for good measure, although this tends to slow the game down.

I’ve also heard of this game being used to practice question intonations. If you say “Simon says, touch your arm?” with a rising intonation at the end, they’re not supposed to do the action.

Materials: paper and crayons

Pass round one piece of paper among a group. Each child draws one feature. At the end, display them on the board or have the children tell a story about their character (in English or their first language).

Try doing this activity with one child in a pair blindfolded while their partner helps them out.

Build a Face July 25, 2007

Children get into teams. You call out a feature, and the first child from each team runs to the board and places the feature on their team’s face. Have the other teacher watch for who gets there first!

Variation: Have the children color and make the face parts during one class, and then cut them out and put magnets on the best ones for the next class.

HINT: make sure the magnets work well. Also, try adding an element of certain silliness, as the game could get too competitive for the really little kids.

Materials: blank paper and crayons.

Review colors, numbers, body parts. Call out a color and a body part, and the students must draw it. Explain that it’s just for fun, there’s no big rules. Leave enough time at the end to display the lovely artwork.
