Aims: -ing verbs / emotions

Materials: 2 envelopes with verbs / emotions

A fantastic charades-like game where the students act out an emotional action, and the group must figure out both the emotion and the action. Go to this activity

HINT: I’ve tried this with my adult conversation class, and they had a lot of fun. It may be a little more difficult to get younger school kids, particularly junior high or high school kids, to perform, but if they do, it’s pretty fun.

Materials: poster / handouts / camera

A fun way to practice all the different ways we express our emotions through facial expressions! Students make a poster of the various emotions in English, then use pictures of themselves to illustrate! A great idea. Go to this activity »

Aims: Feelings / “What would you like?”

Materials: object cards (from 2nd grade GIVE activity)

The teacher states different feelings, for example; “I’m hungry! What will you give me?”

After a bit of warm-ups and practice, the students compete in groups to see who can bring the teacher the appropriate item from the back of the room, or vocabulary card.

I tried this activity in an 8th grade junior high school class, and it went over pretty well. The students had to focus on listening to what I said and connecting the correct vocabulary with it. I also had them compete to see who could say “Here’s a …., Ms. …!”, that way they had to speak, too. Go to this activity »
